It's Coming Togther

Now it's time to cut the tenons that will go into the mortises in the feet. I like to do this by hand. I have done these cuts before using a tablesaw and bandsaw. But, I always wind up having to clean up the cuts with a shoulder plane anyway.

Now I make the cuts using a rip saw for the cheeks and a crosscut saw for the shoulders.

Once you develop a facility for using handsaws (thanks Kelly Mehler!!) you find that this process is a lot easier to do by hand.

I really hate trying to maneuver big ass work pieces across the tablesaw or bandsaw. Its always super awkward, especially when you work by yourself. So handsaws it is...
